Students can choose any course offered by other programmes within the College of Business or any course offered by other colleges subject to the followings:
a. Must fulfil Pre-requisite course if any.
b. Equivalent courses are NOT considered as free elective.
Total Overall Credits Hours: 115
Semester System
Universiti Utara Malaysia operates on semester system. Each academic session consists of two semesters which commences in July and November. Students must attend fourteen (14) week o lectures and tutorials in each semester and followed by three (3) weeks of examination. Under normal circumstances, to qualify for a degree, a student is required to satisfy a minimum duration of six (6) semesters. Within this period, they must complete a minimum number of credits specified by each programme. Students’ achievements are continuously evaluated throughout the semester.
Students will earn grade point for each course taken. The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) will be calculated at the end of each semester. This calculation will continue until a student has successfully completed the amount of credits that is required for each programme.
In order to qualify for a degree, a student must achieve Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 2.00. If he/she failed to achieve CGPA of 2.00 in his/her final semester, a student may continue until the tenth (10) semester. In certain cases the University Senate will consider exemptions in the form of transfer of credit. A student granted with such an exemption will be able to graduate in less than six (6) semesters.
Students who apply for transfer of credit must prove the course that the course they have taken at another institution is equivalent value with the one offered by University
